It is always hard at the beginning of a run and today was no different. I procrastinated with a second cup of coffee, the dishes and a stack of unopened mail. When I finally laced up my sneakers and made it out, I felt like I was moving through molasses. The effort was so effortful. My calves and lungs burned and I the voice inside my head said, its ok, just walk, better yet go back home. But I shooed the voice away, I knew that the discomfort will give rise to ease. In fact, the pain will give rise to joy.
Soon, I lost track in the music and in the trees around me. I settled into the discomfort and my head cleared, and for some time, I just ran, thoughtless. When I looked up, I was surprised to find myself at the ocean. I had not expected to make it there but there I was- finding the beauty inside the pain.
Isn’t that how it is in life? Be it physical growth, emotional growth, spiritual growth, societal growth- we need to endure the pain to reach the beauty on the other side.
During this holiday season, I am keenly aware that there are so many experiencing painful circumstances. I hold them all in mind and heart especially the brave people of Iran for whom I pray their courage is rewarded with the freedom they fight for.
Sending love and gratitude to my friends and family. Sending gratitude to my patients who have entrusted me with their care. Sending gratitude to the hundreds of people who download the HealthBite podcast every week and support my vision. Sending my gratitude to those of you who have embraced Hungry for More, and have sent me personal letters of gratitude as well.
I am heading offline and into nature till after the new year.
Wishing you all a happy heathy meaningful holiday season and prayers for a peaceful new year.
Xx,
Dr. Adrienne
