I’m a board certified internist who specializes in medical weight loss and nutrition. My mission is to provide a mindful approach to weight loss that is both actionable and compassionate. I draw on best medical practices in the field of obesity medicine and on my patients’ personal value system, guiding them to live more physically and emotionally fulfilling lives. I encourage my patients not only to consider the tools and logistics of a weight loss plan but also their motivating values providing both inspiration and information

APPROACH TO WEIGHT LOSS

I am an internist who specializes in medical weight loss and clinical nutrition. My mission is to transform the weight loss narrative to one that is both empowering and compassionate, inspiring people to live more physically and emotionally fulfilling lives. After receiving my medical degree from the University of California San Diego School of Medicine,I completed my residency and fellowship at Cedars-Sinai, where I later served as the medical director for the Center for Weight Loss for nearly a decade. I have board certifications awarded by the American Board of Internal Medicine, the National Board of Physician Nutrition Specialists, and the American Board of Obesity Medicine and am a fellow of the American College of Physicians. I have published in journal articles and book chapters including the Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Perioperative Support of the Bariatric Surgery Patient, several chapters in The Merck Manual and am the editor of their soon to be released Wellness Section. I am also editor of my own comprehensive textbook, “The Clinician’s Guide to the Treatment of Obesity,” and my most recent book, Hungry for More, Stories and Science to Inspire Weight Loss from the Inside Out. I am proud to teach students at UCLA School of Medicine and colleagues locally and around the country and have been featured at numerous news outlets including ABC news, National Public Radio,  Dr. Oz, Dr. Phil and others.

 

My passion is helping my patients become the best version of themselves while pursuing the life they deserve…. one with health, joy, and vitality.

I draw from best practices in the field of obesity medicine, integrative practices and your personal value system, trusting that you inherently know what you need in order to achieve better health and weight loss. It’s time for a better way, one that acknowledges that quick and easy is an illusion, judgement results in sabotage and that you deserve actionable and compassionate tools and guidance for weight loss.
