Do you have that friend? The one that seems like she can eat anything she wants and never gain weight? We all have that friend! It’s true that weight gain is a calorie game, but to limit our understanding of weight gain to calories alone is a major under-sight.
This week’s podcast explores some of the factors that increase the likelihood for weight gain including:
- childhood trauma
- gut microbiome
- obesogens
- circadian dysynchrony
The list is truly fascinating. You can hear the entire episode here.
I also wanted to spotlight last week’s episode on the Dark Side of Gratification where I explore how our culture of Amazon, Netflix, Uber Eats and all the ways in which we get everything we want when we want has conditioned us to expecting quick and easy ALL THE TIME. It certainly is convenient but how does that affect our ability to sit with discomfort? How does it change our expectations of what it really takes to get what we want, and what if we just can’t? You can hear my musings in under 10 minutes here.
Last but not least, if you want to hear the science behind our urge for quick and easy and receive actionable guidance on how to manage our desires, check out this past episode here where I introduce surfing the urge meditation, a tool to manage desire and cravings.
Today’s Health Bite: Become aware of how instant gratification has trickled into your life. Create boundaries to limit this impulse. Then give yourself more time, more trial and error, and more grace.
In good health,
