What nourishes you?
We think of “nutrition,” in terms of macros, vitamins and calories, but nutrition is so much more than the food that you eat. It encompasses all that nourishes you.
When I think of being nourished, my mind goes to connection. Connection nourishes your soul, but you might be surprised to know that it also nourishes your body. In fact, last year the US Surgeon General issued an advisory on loneliness citing research showing that isolation is more harmful to our health than the following:
smoking 15 cigarettes’ per day
drinking 6 alcoholic drinks daily
physical inactivity
obesity
pollution
WOW! As a physician I know this data well, and yet it is still shocking!!
This week on HealthBite, I talk about connection with my dear friend Patricia Bathory, a psychotherapist and author of the beautiful book Connected.
Together we discuss how to:
Cultivate deeper connections with yourself and others
Approach relationships with curiosity and compassion
Transform your interactions and improve your overall well-being
And Patricia also offers actionable Healthbites including:
Strategies for enhancing relationship literacy and building meaningful connections
Tips for navigating difficult conversations and managing conflict
The essential inner work required to foster healthy relationships and emotional regulation
How to get over the hump of isolation that has been afforded to us by convenience of phones, social media and ubereats…
This conversation nourished me mind, body and soul and I promise will give you food for thought!
Wishing you a happy and healthy week!
